The Story: A potential rival to the iPhone will be released this week.
Humane, an AI device and software platform, released a video last week unveiling its newest product, the AI pin. From husband and wife duo Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, who were former Apple designers and engineers, comes a wearable product that claims to be an iPhone replacement.
The AI pin attaches to your shirt and can take phone calls, send texts via your voice, answer questions for you like Siri, and play music. The device projects a laser beam to your hand that mimics a home screen where you can do all sorts of actions, including skipping songs, checking the temperature, and seeing what’s going on in your area. The device can also translate foreign languages in real time and then respond in that language on your behalf. Like a smartphone, it can also track your diet and health stats, take pictures and videos, shop, and more.
The wearable will cost $699 with a $24/month subscription that includes unlimited calls and data powered by T-Mobile. The plan will be connected to its own phone number and won’t need another phone to connect to. For the AI technology within the device, Humane has partnered with Microsoft and OpenAI.
Chaudhri finishes the video by saying, “Our aim at Humane is to build for the world not as it exists today, but as it could be tomorrow – one where we can take the full power of AI everywhere and have it weave seamlessly into our everyday lives. For us, the AI pin is just the beginning.”
The AI pin will be available for order from the company’s website this week, November 16th.
